Assumption of Risk

Assumption of Risk and Safety and Hospital/Medical Insurance

It is understood that everyone participating in any activity program offered by Queen's University assumes and accepts the risks involved. It is further understood that everyone participating in Intramural programs assumes and accepts the risks involved with such participation.

Those who have not had a physical examination within the past year are advised to do so before engaging in any physical activity. By the virtue of University policy, all students must carry the Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP) or equivalent. All medical expenses incurred are the responsibility of the individual, and each participant is responsible for his or her own health. In the event of injury during Intramural activity, the game official, Evening Supervisor, site convenor, or Queen's First Aid staff member (if applicable) will handle the incident on site with the assistance of the PEC Equipment Counter or Arena Staff. They will see that the immediate first aid needs of the individual are met and that the individual is transported to the hospital for further observation if necessary. A detailed incident report will be completed immediately following the incident and forwarded to the Intramural office for information and follow-up if necessary.
