(removal from league)

  1. Teams entered in sports which are run in tournament format do not get any entry points until after they play their first game. Points are given for participation if your opponent defaults, but not for byes. The penalty for entering and not playing your first game is minus (-) 1500 points. Defaults occurring after the first match result in a loss of all participation points.
  2. Teams defaulting out of any team sport played in league format will lose half the entry points for the first default and full entry points for the second default. (Teams committing two defaults are removed from the league).

    Example 1:
    Team Entry points: 1500
    Default after Round 1: - 1500
    Total Participation points: 0

    Example 2:
    Team Entry points: 750
    1st default from Curling: - 375
    2nd default from Curling: - 750
    Total Participation Points: - 350
  3. Playoff points for the quarter-finals to the championship are NOT accumulative. Teams will be awarded points for the highest placing attained.
  4. In the case of a unit entering two teams in sports where an entry limit is extended, the following will apply:

    a) normal participation points will be divided between the two teams

    b) points for excellence will be awarded to the best team in the unit as determined at the conclusion of the playoffs

    c) the second team will hold their place in the standings but will not receive the points for the place attained.

Note: in the case of defaults - A and B entries for any one unit will be treated as separate entities in that sport. Each team will be allowed one default, and will be removed from the league should a second default occur.
  5. If two or more different faculties are playing for one team (legally combined teams), participation and competitive points earned will be divided equally between the units.
  6. Teams entered in Recreational or Tier II divisions will not earn points toward the JAMES G BEWS or MARION ROSS trophies. However, points will be awarded for participation toward the JOHN PAUL MEMORIAL or INDEPENDENT HOUSE trophies.

Competitive Points Participation Points
Team Champion 300 Per Participant 25
2nd Place 200 Max per unit/athon 200
3rd Place 100
Note: Competitive points are based on the combined placings of the first 4 finishers. Each of the 4 individuals on the winning team receives credit toward individual championship awards.

RACQUET SPORTS* (Tennis, Badminton, Squash)
Competitive Points Singles Doubles Participation Points Singles Doubles
Champions 500 500 Per Participant/ Team 100 200
Finalist 300 300 Max Per Unit 500 1000
Semi-Finalist 200 200 Per Default - 100 - 200
Quarter-Finalist 100 100 Max Per Unit Default - 500 - 1000

Note:

a) Participation points are not awarded until the first match is played

b) Points are given for participation if your opponent defaults, but not for byes.

c) If participants enter and do not play their first match it costs the unit 100 (singles) or 200 (doubles) points for the default.

d) If a default occurs after the first match, the participant points for the individual or team are withdrawn, but win points are still counted.

The system of allotting for Racquet Sports is designed so that all units - regardless of size - will gain maximum participation points by entering six participants for each singles event and three doubles teams (six individuals) for each doubles event. This system permits unlimited entry in all Racquet Sports as all entries over six singles and over three teams in doubles are placed into the draw as independents.*

The exception to this is Tennis, where entry is restricted to a maximum of six individuals for singles, three teams for doubles per unit and only six independents.

* Championship points for any independent players who reach the quarter-, semi- or finals in the draw will be awarded to the player’s original unit.

e) Doubles points are awarded only if partners are from the same faculty unit.
