Women's Water Polo Finishes 4th At OUA Finals
Toronto, Ont. (November 25, 2007) - The Queen's Golden Gaels ran into dynamic scorers at this weekend's OUA Championships in Toronto. The Gaels lost their OUA semifinal game Saturday 7-5 to the Carleton Ravens as Rachel Baxter (Ottawa, Ont.) of the Ravens scored six goals. Sunday in the bronze medal game Queen's was defeated 11-4 by the host Varsity Blues as Nicole Brown of Toronto, Ont. scored six goals.

Both Brown and Baxter were named OUA First Team All Stars Friday night along with Queen's Holly Tawse of New Westminster, B.C. Tawse scored two goals in the loss to Carleton.


Women's Waterpolo Loses 9-8 To Carleton

Kingston, Ont. (November 3, 2007) -
The Queen's Golden Gaels dropped a narrow 9-8 decision to the visiting Carleton Ravens Saturday afternoon in Kingston.  The Ravens won the game on a goal by Rachel Baxter of Ottawa, Ont. with just 1:25 remaining.  It was Baxter's fifth goal of the game.  The Gaels jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first quarter but Carleton tied it 16 seconds into the second quarter, at which point the two teams swapped taking the lead with neither team having more than a one goal advantage.  With 2:05 left in the game Gael Holly Tawse of New Westminster, B.C. scored her second of the game to tie it at eight and setting up Baxter's heroics.  Queen's returns to action next weekend in Hamilton at McMaster University.

Women's Waterpolo Split Weekend Games

Kingston, Ont. (October 20, 2007) -
The Queen's Golden Gaels gained a split in their two games Saturday in Kingston.  The Gaels lost to the University of Toronto 12-6 and defeated the McMaster Marauders 7-6 in the night's final game.  In the loss to Toronto the Gaels were outscored 8-3 in the middle two quarters after playing to a 2-2 tie through one quarter.  Holly Tawse, Ally Tosello and Meghan Hartwell each had two goals for the Gaels. Against McMaster Queen's received a goal from Susie Armstrong ninety seconds into the fourth quarter to break a 6-6 tie and give the Gaels their first win of the young season.  Ally Tosello led Queen's with a hat trick and Holly Tawse added two goals.  The Gaels return to action next weekend in Ottawa. 

 

Queen's Wins Women's Water Polo Bronze
Kingston, Ont (November 26, 2006) - The Queen's Golden Gaels have won the OUA women's water polo bronze medal with a 10-8 win over the York Lions Sunday afternoon. The Gaels trailed 2-1 after the first but were ahead by one at halftime. Queen's increased the lead to three heading into the fourth. In the final quarter the Gaels scored twice in a 28 second span early to make it 9-5. The Lions came back with three straight goals including two by Farah Daya to make the score 9-8 with 1:46 remaining. After a Queen's timeout the Gaels passed the ball around and finished with a blast by Holly Tawse that rocketed in off the crossbar to give the Tricolour the 10-8 victory. Tawse led the victors with three goals while Daya led York with a hat trick of her own.

Women's Water Polo Loses 9-3 to Carleton
Kingston, Ont (November 25, 2006) - The Carleton Ravens advanced to the OUA final with a 9-3 win over the Queen's Golden Gaels in Saturday's second semifinal. The Ravens clamped down on the Gaels offence shutting them out until 49 seconds into the third quarter. Carleton led 4-0 at halftime thanks to two goals by Rachel Baxter. Baxter finished with three while Rachelle Aldrich and Jen Hampton each scored twice. For Queen's Ally Tosello had two goals with Sarah Kalwarowsky tallying the other. Carleton will face McMaster in tomorrow's final and Queen's will meet York in the bronze medal game.


Women's Water Polo 1-1 On Weekend
Kingston, Ont (October 29, 2006) - The Queen's Golden Gaels split their league games this weekend in Kingston. On Saturday the Gaels blasted York 17-9 behind 4 goals from Shannel Rajan and three from Sasha Robinson. On Sunday the Gaels lost their first game of the season 7-4 to McMaster with Rajan scoring a goal in that one as well.

Women's Water Polo 2-0 in Ottawa
Ottawa, Ont (October 15, 2006) - The Queen's Golden Gaels women's water polo team won both their OUA games played at Carleton University this weekend in Ottawa. In their opener the Gaels swam past the University of Toronto Varsity Blues 10-7 with Holly Tawse and Sarah Kalwarowsky each scoring a hat trick. In the second game with Carleton a rarity occurred as Queen's goaltender Erin Bickerton scored the winning goal in a 9-8 win over the Ravens. Gaels Sasha Robinson had a hat trick in the victory. Queen's returns to action at home on October 28/29.
