Team News

Canadian Eastern University Championships
TORONTO, Ont (2-3 Oct. 2005) This past weekend, the men's and women's ultimate teams attended the Canadian Eastern University Ultimate Championships in Toronto.

For the third year in a row, the men's team won the tournament after Guelph conceded victory at a score of 14-6. Ryan Lee and Doug Brodhead were honoured as tournament MVPs as chosen by the Guelph contingent. Special mention also goes to Adam Shaw, whose outstanding finals performance carried the team's offense to victory.

The women's team placed 5th overall. With a close 9-8 loss to the team from the University of Toronto, the Gaels played for 5th place against Waterloo. The game marked the 6th match of the season between the two teams, and was by far the best game of the weekend. Important defense by rookies Lindsay Earle and Krista Neale over the whole weekend and especially this game kept Waterloo from scoring. Rookie Janique Dyza and returning players Teresa McAdam, Jill Fairley, Laura Kresovic, Katie Geale were important to the offense that was supported by chill handling by Taila Hartley, Carly Bassett, Meg Kilvert and Kailee Novikoff. Placing 5th overall in Eastern Regionals the team is looking forward to a stronger finish at Nationals in two weeks.
