The GGAC Peer Tutoring Program

Information for the Student-Athlete Interested in Tutoring

What is this tutoring program all about?
The purpose of the Queen’s Athletics Peer Tutoring Program is to provide the student athlete with either: the opportunity to gain assistance in subject matters that he/she is having difficulties with, or the opportunity to tutor other student athletes in subjects he/she excels in.

How will this program work?
After having indicated the courses that he/she would like to tutor, the tutor is paired up with a student athlete, possibly from a different interuniversity or club team, who is having difficulties with the material in those particular courses.

Am I eligible to be a tutor?
To be eligible for a tutoring position, one must be a current member of an interuniversity sports team or university club team and must have successfully completed the courses offered.

How will I be paid?
The pay is $10 an hour. The tutor will be paid by Queen’s University. For that reason, the tutor must complete a GGAC Peer Tutoring Application and provide a void check. The method of payment is direct deposit and will occur monthly.

How many sessions am I required to do?
The number of sessions will depend on the individual needs and requirements of the student athlete.

What does my job entail?

  1. Respond to the student athletes request, and set up a time and date for the tutoring session
  2. Complete a Tutorial Session Form and have it approved by the Program Coordinator before the tutoring session
  3. After the tutoring session, provide the student athlete with an Evaluation Form and complete the remaining sections of the Tutorial Session Form and hand it into the Program Coordinator

Where do I start?

  1. Complete the GGAC Application Form and hand it into the Program Coordinator who can be found in the coaches’ room (just past the PEC Wicket). Office hours to be announced.
  2. Please email the Program Coordinator for the other forms: Tutorial Session Form and Evaluation Form.
