The GGAC Peer Tutoring Program

Information for the Student-Athlete

What is this tutoring program all about?
The purpose of the Queen’s Athletics Peer Tutoring Program is to provide the student athlete with either: the opportunity to gain assistance in subject matters that he/she is having difficulties with, or the opportunity to tutor other student athletes in subjects he/she excels in.

How will this program work?
After having indicated the courses that he/she would like to be tutored in, the student athlete will be paired with another Queen’s athlete, possibly from a different interuniversity or club team, who has completed the course(s) and who feels comfortable offering assistance with the subject matter. Each tutoring session, not to exceed a maximum of 2 hrs, will be held at Stauffer or Douglas library.

Am I eligible for this program?
To be eligible for this tutoring program one must be a current member of an interuniversity sports team or university club team.

How much is this going to cost me?
This program is being provided by Queen’s University Athletics. Once a student athlete has signed up for the program, the first three tutoring sessions are free. Any additional tutoring sessions will cost $10. This cost will be divided between Queen’s University and the student athlete: Queen’s will pay $5 and the student athlete will pay $5.

What if I don’t find the tutorial session helpful? Will I be stuck with the same tutor?
After each tutoring session, the tutor will be asked to complete a form, providing record of the tutoring session. In addition to the form, the student athlete will be asked to complete an evaluation form. On this form, the student athlete will be able to indicate whether or not he/she would like to continue with the same tutor.

How do I start?

  1. The student athlete first must complete the Request Form.
  2. After having completed it, please hand it into the Program Coordinator who can be found in the coaches’ room (just past the PEC Wicket) Within 24hrs the student athlete will be paired with a tutor. The student athlete is responsible for contacting the tutor, to set up an appropriate date and time. This date must be first be approved by the Program Coordinator.
  3. After the session, the student athlete must complete an Evaluation Form, provided by the tutor, and hand it into the Program Coordinator.
