On the women’s side Whitney Lum, Alex Hubbard and Ali Doherty all posted victories for the Gaels. The swim team looks to build off of these results in preparation for the Divisional Championships in three weeks. Link to results: Swimming (M/W): Divisional Championships (submitted by Chris Kreutzner) On the men’s side strong performances were had by both the 4 x 50 medley relay and 4 x 50 free relay, both placing 3rd. The 4 x 100 free relay was a solid 4th. Individually, top scorers included rookies Jamie Loh, Matt White and Emre Amasyali and team captains Adam Mclellan and Chris Kreutzner with consistent top 8 finishes among them including four medals. Strong performances were also seen by veterans Mark Kellenberger and Edmund Swam. The women’s team stepped it up with a 2nd place finish in the 4 x 50 medley relay. Individually, veterans Whitney Lum, Alexandra Hubbard, Katie McIntosh lead the way with top scoring finishes and were backed by solid performances by Jenelle Kasper, Victoria Johnston and rookie Kelsey Wibbing. Our two lone distance swimmer, Carly Schelberg and Greg McLeod, showed that consistent training does pay off with best times each in the 200, 400 and 800 free and the 200, 400 and 1500 free, respectively. Enyon Divisional Championships at Guelph University
The depth of the women’s team was evident with top ten finishes in nearly every event, with standout performances all weekend by Basia Pajerski, Faye Ling, and rookie Alex Hubbard who placed second in the 50m Backstroke in 31.70s and already closing in on national CIS qualifying standards. The women’s relays also turned heads with a mostly rookie squad led by co-captain Brittany Segeren placing 3rd in the 200m Medley Relay, and a team just out-touched at the finish missing 4thplace in the 400m Freestyle Relay by 0.22s for a time of 4:12.84s. The men’s team also enjoyed more depth this weekend with an expanded and improved roster from last year. Some exceedingly fast swims of note came from Julian Chang, Chris Kreutzner, Edmund Swan, and dark horse Brian Kim, who placed 2nd in the 50m Breaststroke at 31.25 – another CIS hopeful. Co-captain Mike Chu helped motivate the team by swimming impressively despite a nagging ankle injury, and led the men’s 400m Freestyle Relay to 3rd place in 3:45.33 amidst deafening cheers from all six competing schools. While only the top sixteen finishes in each event are worth points in the final tally, notable swims from Annie Ruksys, Serena Palmer, Darcy Reynolds, and Vince Enachescu – among others – scored points to help propel Queen’s to 4th place in the division. While UWO and Guelph were expected to dominate (finishing 1stand 2nd, respectively), finishing close behind perennial division rivals Carleton did not sit well with the team or the coaches, and the Golden Gaels will be looking to exact revenge against the Ravens when the province comes together for the OUA Championship Finals in February. Final scores were: UWO Mustangs – 1970.5pts, Guelph Gryphons – 1770pts, Carleton Ravens – 939.5pts, Queen’s Golden Gaels – 839.5pts, Trent Excalibur – 556pts, Brock Badgers – 373.5pts. Kyle Johansen
