The Use of Personal Information for Media Purposes

Queen's Athletics collects, uses, retains, and discloses personal information from student/athletes (including medical information) in accordance with the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act. Personal information is used mainly for the purposes of:

  • administrating student sporting activities
  • confirming status as a full-time student
  • determining whether or not a student is eligible to play in either, or both, leagues
  • determining if an athlete requires special attention for medical reasons in order to allow a student-athlete to participate to his or her fullest extent as a varsity team, varsity club or competitive club member. The medical information is collected and used solely by the Head Therapist for this purpose.

In certain circumstances information collected will be used with the student athlete's consent for media communication. The information disclosed would be limited to:

  • name
  • hometown
  • height & weight (women's weight is exempt)
  • degree program and year
  • year of eligibility
  • positional information
  • biographical information of a personal nature provided by an athlete with a clear option to opt out of providing such information for media purposes
  • athletic accomplishments while at Queen's University and other institutions or other related sport clubs
