Nordic Skiing (M/W): Gaels Finish Fifth and Seventh at OUA Finals
Sudbury, Ont. (February 9, 2008) - Julie McVicar of Kanata, Ont. was the top Golden Gael finishing the women’s individual 5km classic in seventh place with a time of 18 minutes and:14 seconds. She was just one minute and 18 seconds behind Lakehead’s Chrstinea Groulx who captured the top result. Overall Queen’s put three racers in the top 25.
On the men’s side Jakob Van Dorp of Wiarton, Ont. was the top competitor from Queen’s finishing in 15th but just 33.34 seconds behind the winning time of 15.31. Van Dorp finished with a time of 16:51
In the relay event Queen’s finished the men’s event in 11th position with a time of 55:57 a full seven minutes behind the winning team of Lakehead while the women’s team finished in fifth place. Host Laurentian captured the women’s relay at 28:13 while Queen’s was just 4:03 behind.
Overall the men’s team finished in seventh place with 310 points while the women’s team finished in fifth place with a 174 points. The Lakehead Thunderwolves earned both the men’s and women’s overall titles. Nordic Skiing conference all stars will be announced by the OUA on Tuesday, February 12.
Nordic Skiing (M/W): Gaels Have Strong Showing In Peterborough
Peterborough, Ont. (January 30, 2008) - The Queen's Golden Gaels nordic ski team received strong performances from a pair of rookies and a veteran on the weekend in Peterborough at the OUA Qualifier. Fourth year women's skiier Julie McVicar of Kanata, Ont. finished fourth in the five kilometre race Saturday afternoon and sixth Sunday in the 10 kilometre event. Rookie Talia Davidson finished 15th Saturday and 17th on Sunday while Julie Engelhardt of Gatineau, Que. was right behind Davidson in 16th in the five kilometre race and 18th in the 10K. On the men's side rookie Jack Van Dorp of Wiarton, Ont. was the top Gael on both days finishing fourth in the 10 kilometre run Saturday and 13th Sunday in the 15 kilometre. Van Dorp's teammate and fellow rookie Alan Richards was the next best Queen's male finishing 20th in both races.
Nordic Skiing Strong Showing At OUA Finals
Ottawa, ON (February 11, 2007) - The Queen's Golden Gaels men's and women's nordic ski teams had a fine showing but unfortunately came home without a medal from the OUA Championships hosted by Carleton University this weekend. Julie McVicar came the closest to medalling but missed by 29 seconds in the Women's 10km race Sunday morning finishing fourth. McVicar finished eighth in the 5km race and then teamed up with her sister Lisa and Katie Geale to finish fifth in the 3 x 2km Free Relay. On the men's side Jakob Van Dorp finished eighth in the 10km Free Technique, Ian Scriver finished 17th in the 15 km Classic Event and the two along with Brian Utigard combined to finish sixth in the 3 x 4km Free Relay. |
