Queen's Upsets Western for National Cheerleading Title
Brampton, Ont. (December 1, 2007) - Queen's University earned the National University Cheerleading title on Saturday ending a 22-year streak held by the University of Western Ontario as the competition closed Saturday at the Poweraide Centre in Brampton, Ont.

The Gaels squad led the competition from start-to finish and earned the overall title over Western with the University of Waterloo finishing third. Carleton finished in fourth place and Simon Fraser University from British Columbia rounded out the top five.

The Western Mustangs had held the title dating back to 1985 and have won 22 consecutive National University Cheerleading Championships.

"We've been working towards this every year and we have been getting closer and closer," said Head Coach Sandy Han just hours after the victory. "The support we received after we won was tremendous, we had a lot of alumni watching and all the other schools were very happy to see Queen's win. It's just an amazing rush."

Competitive Cheerleading Team Garners Silver at the University Cheerleading Championships
Brampton, ON (December 2, 2006) - The Competitive Cheerleading team returned from the Brampton Powerade Centre this past Saturday with its third consecutive silver medal at the University Cheerleading Championships. The Cheerleaders were only 4 points out of 400 behind Western who won their 22nd victory. The gap is closing quickly and according to Head Coach Sandra Han the "Stangs better run fast because the Gaels are coming up just behind them."

Cheerleaders Raise Money for KGH
Kingston, Ont (Sept 23, 2006) - In a feel good community story the Gaels Cheerleading team took to the streets for the Hotel Dieu 5K at Saturday. Josh Wartman placed 5th overall and first in the men's 19 and under division. The team entered 24 of the 81 runners and many placed in the top 5 in their divisions.

The team participated to show that Queen's University students give back to the Kingston community. It was also a demonstration of the athleticism of the cheerleading team.
