This week on Gaels XL Queen’s women’s swimmer Jen Arthurs of Kingston, Ont. will talk about her season which ended this past weekend at the CIS Championships in Vancouver, B.C.  Arthur finished in seventh place at in the 50-metre butterfly event.  Anchor: Doug Jefferies

February 19
This week on Gaels XL, Queen’s men’s basketball players Simon Mitchell and Rob Shaw will talk about their OUA East home quarterfinal game Wednesday against Ryerson.  Mitchell and Shaw will also discuss their thoughts on a making a deep run into the 2008 playoffs.  Anchor: Doug Jefferies.

This week on Gaels XL Queen’s women’s hockey goaltender Melissa John will talk about the OUA quarterfinal game  later this week.  She will also talk about her recent play which saw Melissa win the OUA and CIS Player of the Week.  Anchor: Doug Jefferies

February 5
This week on Gaels XL, Queen’s men’s volleyball players Stu Hamilton and Jeff DeMeza will talk about the season so far which sees the Gaels battling for another OUA crown.  They will also discuss this weekend’s final regular season home games against undefeated McMaster and Guelph, the last two teams to defeat Queen’s back in late November.  Friday’s matchup against Guelph will be a battle for second place.  Anchor: Doug Jefferies

January 29
This week on Gaels XL, Queen’s women’s basketball Erin Skippon and Christine Wallace will talk about the season so far which sees the Gaels at 7-10 in the OUA East.   They will cover their remarkable come-back victory over Carleton last weekend and discuss the upcoming home games against first-place York and third place Laurentian. Anchor: Doug Jefferies

January 22
This week on Gaels XL, Queen’s Men’s Basketball Head Coach Rob Smart will talk about the season to date which sees the Gaels a solid 9-5 in OUA League play.  He will discuss Friday’s home game against the undefeated five-time national champion Carleton Ravens who are coached by his younger brother Dave and his son Rob Jr.   Anchor: Doug Jefferies.

This week on Gaels XL Queen’s women’s volleyball players Elyssa Heller and Lisa Cooke will talk about their season with eight games left to play under new head coach Joely Christian.  Anchor: Doug Jefferies

GAELS XL WILL PREMIER ON CKWS-TV TUESDAYS
New segment aimed at profiling the Queen's University Golden Gaels

Kingston, Ont. (November 13, 2007) - CKWS Television (A Corus Entertainment Company) and Queen's University Athletic and Recreation Department are pleased to announce the launch of GAELS XL which will air during the CKWS-TV's Newswatch@ 5:30.

GAELS XL is a five minute segment produced in coordination with CKWS-TV and Queen's University Athletics and Recreation. The show will profile Queen's athletes and coaches on the university's varsity squads as well as preview upcoming games and provide a recap of games from the week prior.

The segment will be hosted by CKWS-TV Sports Anchor Doug Jeffries and will be broadcast at approximately 5:45pm (EST) during the Tuesday edition of Newswatch@5:30 hosted by Antony Agostino.

"This is a tremendous partnership which we are very excited about," said Brad Greenwood, Manager of Marketing, Events and Communications for Queen's Athletics and Recreation. "Our goal for this segment is to provide more than results. We want to deliver the stories behind the games and introduce our rising athletes to the community of Kingston and beyond."

"We felt this was a perfect addition to Newswatch@5:30," said CKWS-TV News Director Jay Westman. "The Golden Gaels have a long storied history in this community, and GAELS XL will allow us to share this continuing legacy with our viewers. We feel it's something the people at home will really enjoy."

"We have a strong following of Gaels fans across the country," said Greenwood. "Having CKWS available on Expressvu and Star Choice is an added bonus for GAELS XL. Our alumni and fans will have another medium to keep track of all our Golden Gaels teams."

The premier edition of GAELS XL will premier tonight and feature Jeffries chatting with Jeff Ovens, captain of the Queen's men's hockey team. Ovens and the Gaels are in the midst of preparing for Saturday's match up against McGill University which is recorded as the second oldest hockey rivalry in history. Tune in to also see a recap of last week's results and a preview of other events to come.

Jeffries also has a strong connection to Queen's University having been the Public Address Announcer at Richardson Stadium for the last 27 years during Golden Gaels football games.
