Queen’s Athletics & Recreation unveils major award recipients at Colour Awards athletic banquet

Kingston, Ont. (March 25, 2008) –
Women’s rower Connie Dayboll of Grimsby, Ont. and men’s volleyball player Devon Miller of Barrie, Ont. have been selected as Queen’s University’s top athletes for the 2007-08 athletic season.

Dayboll was chosen as the recipient of the PHE’55 Alumnae Trophy while Miller captures the Jenkins Trophy which was handed out on Tuesday in Kingston.  Both awards considered the most prestigious award handed out by Queen’s University Athletics and Recreation.

Dayboll, a fourth-year nursing student was one of the leaders for the women’s team that captured both the provincial and national university rowing championship.  This year, Dayboll captured two gold medals at the provincial championship and then claimed gold in the Lightweight Single at the national finals.

She concludes her career at Queen’s winning eight gold medals at the Ontario University Athletics (OUA) Championship and was a catalyst for the women’s team that has earned three OUA championships and one silver medal in four seasons. Dayboll will graduate from the School of Nursing with a degree in Nursing Science.

Miller caps off an exceptional five-year career at Queen’s which saw him quarterback the men’s volleyball team to three consecutive appearances in the OUA Championship series.    In that time, Miller and his teammates captured back-to-back OUA titles in 2005-06 and 2006-07 and this year the team finished with a silver medal.

He is an OUA First-Team All-Star in each of his last three seasons and was OUA Player of the Year in 2006-07.  Miller also led the OUA in assists the past three seasons and in 2006-07 was the nation leader.  Miller has captured All-Canadian honours the past three years and served as the team captain the last two.  Miller will graduate from the Faculty of Arts & Science with a degree in Environmental Science.

The PHE’55 Alumnae Trophy and Jenkins Trophy are annually presented to the female and male graduating student-athlete who have brought the most honour to Queen’s by their athletic and academic abilities.
